The art of doing nothing: a guide to susegad

Susegad is a word Goa borrowed from Portuguese and made entirely its own — an unhurried contentment that has nothing to do with laziness and everything to do with attention.

It shows up in small refusals: the shopkeeper who won't be rushed, the lunch that runs two hours long, the afternoon nobody apologises for sleeping through.
